Issues in agricultural bioethics.T. B. Mepham, Gregory A. Tucker & Julian Wiseman (eds.) - 1995 - Nottingham: Nottingham University Press.
Most debate about the ethical implications of modern biotechnology has centred around medical issues, but public concerns over the impact of agricultural biotechnologies have gathered momentum. This volume, resulting from the 55th University of Nottingham Easter School in Agricultural and Food Science, provides a survey of this new field of enquiry. The book will be of interest to a wide readership, including applied philosophers, sociologists, economists and ecologists, as well as biotechnologists and agricultural and food scientists.

The following reply is brief because I have dealt with the works of art at some length in Rylands Bulletin, xxxvi , 563 f. and in a forthcoming number of Ephemeris Archaiologike. Unitarity bounds for 4-fermion contact interactions.T. B. Anders, R. von Mellenthin, B. Pfeil & H. Salecker - 1993 - Foundations of Physics 23 (3):399-410.
In this paper we consider the effect of unitarity bounds sb⩾s≡(E1+E2) cms 2 for the recently proposed types of nonderivative 4-fermion contact interactions. To this purpose we decompose the helicity amplitudes at c.m.s. into partial waves. The bounds are defined to hold for all reaction channels due to the same type of contact interaction. We find sb=τ4π/κ. Here κ is the coupling constant. The factor τ depends on the type of coupling and on the different cases to identify the fermions. (...)

    Chronological Notes on Middle Comedy.T. B. L. Webster - 1952 - Classical Quarterly 2 (1-2):13-.
My chief object in these notes is to provide evidence for tracing the ancestry of certain themes, situations, and characters which appear in New Comedy; I hope, however, that they may also be useful for the study of Middle Comedy itself. I am therefore chiefly concerned with the period from 400 b.c. to 320 b.c., when Menander had begun to write; I have, however, given some dates after 320 which were necessary to complete my story, but I have left out (...)

Minnesota Court Upholds Statute on Unlicensed Medical Practice.T. B. H. - 1996 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 24 (1):75-76.
The Court of Appeals of Minnesota, in State v. Saunders ), held that the statutory offense of practicing medicine without a license was not unconstitutionally vague as applied to a claim involving a farmer who offered a home remedy to cure cancer. The court held that, although Minnesota Statute § 147.081 subd. 3 contains general language and undefined terms, the statute contains sufficient particularity to show ordinary persons what conduct is prohibited, and thereby passes the void-for-vagueness test. The court stated (...)

The Concept of the Comic in Esthetics.T. B. Liubimova - 1980 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 19 (3):70-94.
The comic is one of the principal esthetic categories; it unites the multifaceted experience of the social mind as it assimilates and cognizes the world, particularly the social world, on the basis of axioms of common sense, or even of public opinion about these axioms. Boldly violating the laws of logic and the verisimilitude of images, of normal connections and notions, and playing upon these violations, the comic nonetheless remains firmly on the side of common sense. The comic is inexhaustible (...)

Illinois Court Holds Physicians Liable Under Learned Intermediary Doctrine.T. B. E. - 1996 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 24 (1):73-74.
In Martin v. Ortho Pharmacetrtical Corp. ), the Supreme Court of Illinois held that, although a federal regulation requires pharmaceutical manufacturers to provide direct warnings to consumers about the dangers associated with oral contraceptives, this regulation does not constitute an exception to the learned intermediary doctrine and the manufacture will not be held strictly liable. The court declined to recognize an exception for manufacturers of contraceptives due to important policy considerations and the legislative intent underlying the learned intermediary doctrine. The (...)

    A General Theory of Authority. [REVIEW]T. B. T. J. - 1964 - Review of Metaphysics 17 (3):482-482.
Drawing on the philosophies of Aristotle and Aquinas, the author is concerned with justifying the need and use of political authority in any well-ordered and good society. Authority is necessary, he argues, because individual virtue, no matter how enlightened, cannot alone bring about "the common good in matter." The leaders, the wise men, can help assure this common good, "the communication of excellence," throughout the social hierarchy by using their authority properly. The author does not deal with such questions as (...)
